Gigs: Storyfold @ Whelan’s March 23rd

Storyfold, who released their debut album ‘Rocket Science’ last year, are wetting the head of their 4th single release, ‘The Sweetest Silence’ with a headliner in Whelan’s on March 23rd. Frontman Paddy McKenna gives over lead vocals to pianist Lindsey Hogan for ‘…Silence’ and it’s well worth hearing: Support comes from Jet Set Radio and Laura Elizabeth Hughes (the first public gig of the YouTube sensation whose ‘Video Games’ cover is below and deserves a watch). New Music: Rocket Science by Storyfold

Having an album produced by Greg Haver of Manic Street Preachers and Super Furry Animals fame is in itself a feat for an unsigned Irish band. The five-member Storyfold released their debut album Rocket Science in May with acclaimed music blogger 2UIBestow heralding it as one of the most anticipated albums of this year. The juvenility of the band is apparent throughout the album as the American pop-rock sound is relatively constant and couples with the sweet vocals of the unsullied-sounding Lindsey Hogan. Hogan and fellow vocalist Paddy McKenna were seemingly born to sing together as their respective stylings merge perfectly together over backing music. This is most evident in the power pop-esque The Battle; an emotional song which is riddled with meaningful lyrics and the two singers’ sweet, expressive strains. Storyfold: Trick of the Light

Dublin 5-piece Storyfold have launched their music video for Trick of the Light this evening. It’s edited by U2 editor Stephen O’Connell. The story goes that O’Connell bumped into Storyfold’s frontman Paddy McKenna in a branch of AIB six years ago. He probably didn’t think that a casual offer to give him a call if McKenna ever needed an editor would lead anywhere…but fast-forward to a cold call at the start of this year and suddenly Storyfold have got themselves an O’Connell-edited instant classic filmed in the incredibly watchable surrounds of a disused 18th century Georgian townhouse.
