New Video: Temper Trap - Rabbit Hole

Oh look! The Temper Trap’s self-titled second album is released this May 21st. That’s around my cousin’s birthday. Sadly, he doesn’t like good music, so I’ll probably buy this for myself and get him Meatloaf’s Greatest Hits or some shit. You’ll remember Temper Trap from their massive debut album Conditions, and their epic-as-the-book-of-revelations song Sweet Disposition. This is the Aussie’s first album as a five-piece, and as they’ve been working with producer Tony Hoffer (of Beck, The Thrills, and Phoenix fame), expect a blistering piece of work. Here’s a taster: album track Rabbit Hole, set to some attractive, swirling paint. At least I hope that’s paint. That’s not milk, is it? God, I hope that’s not milk. The Temper Trap will play The Phoenix Park this July 8th with Snow Patrol and Florence and The Machine. It’s sold out. If you live nearby, maybe open a window?

There’s a certain amount of nostalgia attached to any walk down the quays for a concert at The 02. Undeniably an improvement on its previous incarnation as The Point Depot, you still find yourself with a hankering after a few merch stalls, a concrete floor and a balcony that really made you feel like you were taking your life in your hands. The fact is, we’ll always feel sorry for those young pups who never got to experience a concert at The Point Depot. In the same way they don’t remember the pound coin, they’re blissfully unaware of the amount of time you could spend queueing for the ladies loos while listening to the last few muffled bars of your favourite song creeping through from the main arena and awkwardly crossing your legs. Instead, they’re mollycoddled with multi-storey parking, drinks holders on the seats and a LUAS straight to the … There’s more

The Big, Big Music Round-Up #2

It’s been another busy week of music news…most especially for those of us who are signed up to more mailing lists than could possibly be healthy. Fox Jaw Bounty Hunter launch their debut album today. The Limerick four-piece spent five months in studio with Owen Lewis whose credits include working with the likes of REM and Snow Patrol and the result is The Devil in Music, the first single from which is ‘Thread the Needle’. “The single features an arrangement of musical notes to form a chord known as a tritone. In the Middle Ages this grouping of notes was frowned upon and in some cases banned for its demonic and evil sound, and thus was nicknamed ‘Diabolus in Musica’ – Latin for The Devil In Music.” I like the sound, I’m not sure about the vocals. See for yourself: We really like the sound of RockNess 2011. It’s in Scotland, … There’s more

Snow Patrol Withdraw From Meteor Awards

It’s such a shame - I was looking forward to catching Snow Patrol again at this year’s Meteor Ireland Music Awards. They were due to play in a line-up that includes Westlife, The Script, Florence and the Machine, Paulo Nutini, Bell X1, Pixie Lott, Brian Kennedy and The Dublin Gospel Choir and The Coronas, but “due to illness”, they’ve had to pull out. It seems Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody has been diagnosed with a dislocated jaw brought on by an old injury and will require immediate medical treatment. Sounds rough. I hope he recovers quickly. Here’s Snow Patrol in action at 2008′s Meteors with Run: The tenth Meteor Music Awards will be in the RDS on 19th February and will be aired on Sunday 21st February RTE 2 at 9pm. Tickets are sold out.

Snow Patrol concerts in Dublin

Snow Patrol are playing at the Olympia Theatre on December 2nd & 3rd. The ticket prices are €56.80 and €62.70… quite dear given the current economic situation. I caught them in Boston a couple of years ago. I like their ‘A Hundred Million Suns’ album, my favourite song on that being ‘The Lightning Strike’. This video below is a partial recording of the song from their concert at the Gate Theatre in Dublin last year. Their playing of the song here has a harder edge. Their are quite a few other concerts coming up this December in Ireland, but internet searching can only get me so far .. so let me know what concerts you might be attending, I’d be glad to hear about them.
