Review: The Amazing Spider-Man

SpiderMan003

Perhaps the best way to start is to tell you to block the last decade of Spider-Man movies from your mind and treat The Amazing Spider-Man as it is, a complete revamp of the Spider-Man franchise. In 2005, Christopher Nolan started a new wave of films with Batman Begins, where the story is as important, if not more important, than the superhero and his trials. We get strong characterisation, drama and a full story and this theme has run into the reincarnation of Marvel’s most famous superhero, as directed by Marc Webb (And I can’t not say something about how awesomely apt his surname is!). If anyone has heard of Spider-Man, they know the story of his origins. Peter Parker, a high school student who lives with his aunt and uncle, gets bitten by radioactive spider and develops super powers. This awkward teenager gains the ability to crawl up walls, … There’s more

Firstly…WANTSIES: It’s available from the BigBadToyStore.com from September and if anyone wants to buy it for me, I would not object. In sad news, the man who has voiced Mickey Mouse for the past 32 years, Wayne Allwine has passed away aged 62. Allwine took over the reigns from Jimmy McDonald in 1977, while Jimmy took over from Disney himself in 1947. It’s full steam ahead for Ghostbusters 3. Dan Aykroyd confirmed that the sequel will be ready to film this Winter, with all the original cast signed on to return, including Sigourney Weaver. There’s also talk of Eliza Dushku joining the gang. (read Dr. Manfattan’s article here) Now finished with Drag Me To Hell, Sam Raimi is ready to return to directing Tobey Maguire in Spiderman 4. The script should be completed in the next four weeks apparently. The comic-book legend Stan Lee’s story, Nick Ratchet, is a mystery-thriller … There’s more

Movie News 14/04/09

Well, with the Easter hiatus, I have loads and loads of movie news to catch up on, including a shed load of trailers. Check out the new trailer for Michael Mann’s Public Enemies: It looks like the hit Broadway musical, Spring Awakening, which I think is a pile of steaming crap, is coming to the big screen with Terminator Salvation’s director, McG, in charge. Odd! In more Ghostbusters news, Dan Aykroyd (whose name I constantly have to check the spelling of) has hinted that there will be a number of new Ghostbusting recruits under the wing of mentors Ray, Egon, Venkman and Winston. Aykroyd has said there will “lots of cadets”. This could be good news for the storyline. Further evidence from a TV spot that Terminator Salvation is likely to have a measily PG-13 rating:

Holy bad marketing, Spiderman!

So, Spiderman 4 has been given a release date for May 2011. I was never a huge Spiderman or Sam Raimi fan so I’m a little hopeful that he’ll look at what has been done with Comic book and Superhero movies since the last one and up his game. In a case of hot body/weird face, maybe Kirstin Dunst should be reconsidered as she hasn’t yet confirmed that she’ll return as Mary Jane. Personally I could name a dozen natural hot red heads that would fill her shoes perfectly. Anyway, I just happened to stumble across some of the taglines for the first Spiderman movie back in 2002. For those who don’t know, a tag line is it’s a line that tries to sum up the entire plot, theme and tone of a movie in a single sentence. Some of the lines are so cringe worthy that you’d think they … There’s more
