New Video: Temper Trap - Rabbit Hole

Oh look! The Temper Trap’s self-titled second album is released this May 21st. That’s around my cousin’s birthday. Sadly, he doesn’t like good music, so I’ll probably buy this for myself and get him Meatloaf’s Greatest Hits or some shit. You’ll remember Temper Trap from their massive debut album Conditions, and their epic-as-the-book-of-revelations song Sweet Disposition. This is the Aussie’s first album as a five-piece, and as they’ve been working with producer Tony Hoffer (of Beck, The Thrills, and Phoenix fame), expect a blistering piece of work. Here’s a taster: album track Rabbit Hole, set to some attractive, swirling paint. At least I hope that’s paint. That’s not milk, is it? God, I hope that’s not milk. The Temper Trap will play The Phoenix Park this July 8th with Snow Patrol and Florence and The Machine. It’s sold out. If you live nearby, maybe open a window?

Culch.ie Calling Cards - Gigs - November 1 - 7 2010

GIGS Champ is the second full length album from Toronto’s Tokyo Police Club. They first hit their stride back in 2006 when, straight out of high school, their hyperactive mini-album A Lesson in Crime came from nowhere to prove one of the year’s most refreshing releases. The surprise success of A Lesson in Crime led to relentless touring through the entirety of 2006/07, with appearances anywhere and everywhere, taking in festivals from Coachella to Glastonbury, two TV appearances Letterman and, bizarrely, an appearance on an episode of Desperate Housewives. They are gearing up again to play The Academy, Dublin on Friday 5 November. Following a one-off MTV show with Arcade Fire in Spain, The Temper Trap head across the Atlantic for headline shows in the US and a prestigious three-date support slot with The Pixies in Mexico, before returning to Australia to end a second whirlwind year on their homeland … There’s more

Interview With The Joy Formidable

The demented drummer. The deep-thinking bassist. The “little pistol” of a frontwoman. The Joy Formidable might seem like a rock band made up of the usual suspects, but when culch.ie muscled in for a chat with Ritzy and Rhydian on their recent Irish tour, we were soon put right. Also about pop tarts, Australians, and why you shouldn’t meet your heroes. They put us right on quite a lot of things, now that we think about it. Quite possibly it’s been overdue. Anyway, enjoy! Hello, The Joy Formidable! How did you lot come about, then? Didn’t you two (Ritzy and Rhydian, above right) go to school together? Ritzy: We did, but there were a lot of missed opportunities! We spent a lot of our school years more talking about the possibilities of writing music together … Rhydian: Well, you were a year younger, weren’t you? We knew each other, but … There’s more
