God Is An Astronaut - tour dates announced

In my humble opinion God is an Astronaut is one of the better bands making music in Ireland right now. I guess you’d have to be into shoe-gazey, ambient music to agree with me on this but I urge you to give them a shot. The name gives it away a little: their sound is big, timeless and space-y. The kind of thing which might soundtrack your first exploratory mission to Andromeda I.

The Wicklow-based band have announced Irish tour dates to air the songs from their fifth album Age of the Fifth Sun (impressively they have recorded five albums and one EP since they formed in 2002). They’ll be playing the main stage at the Indiependence festival in Michelstown on the 31st July and in November will be playing the Róisín Dubh, Galway on the 4th, The Forum, Waterford on the 5th, The Academy, Dublin on the 6th and The Limelight, Belfast on the 7th. There are unconfirmed rumours of an Oxegen booking also.

I’ve never been to a live show of theirs before, but I’ve heard good things, particularly about the atmosphere and the use of lighting.

Tickets for The Academy date are on sale now at €22 (incl. booking fee) from Ticketmaster. For the other dates contact the relevant venues directly.
