Limitless

Eddie (Bradley Cooper) is a bit broken. He looks like a homeless drunk but isn’t either and has been stuck in a rut for a long time. A chance encounter with his former brother-in-law leaves him in possession of NZT, a new drug that opens up the dark fields of the mind. Directed by Neil Burger, this could have gone quite wrong (Shia LeBoeuf was cast until an accident meant a postponement and the part was re-cast), but it’s an effective thriller in Burger/Cooper’s hands. NZT transforms Eddie’s life from a dead end into a highway, propelling him into high class parties, business meetings and expanding his knowledge field overnight. There’s a downside though as Eddie is shown what life without NZT actually means for former users (including an under used Anna Friel) and he’s pursued by those who know what he’s got his hands on. The Polish Ambassador remixes Nate Dogg

This I love. As well as being a musician in his own right, The Polish Ambassador does trippy little electro remixes of classic tracks (including one of Sloop John B that is deliciously mad). In memory of the hip hop legend Nate Dogg, who passed away last week, he’s released a fantastic remix of one of his finest (or at least best known) moments, Warren G’s Regulate. And for free. Download time. Warren G featuring Nate Dogg - Regulate (The Polish Ambassador Remix) by Polish Ambassador Grab it, love it, share it.

Fred’s Leaving My Empire.

What? Cork favourites Fred leaving the People’s Republic? Say it ain’t so! No, my stupidly misleading headline refers to Leaving My Empire, Fred’s fourth studio album, due for release this April 15th. Jesus, where does the time go? The album will be preceded by the very delightfully Fredish If Not Now When. Here, la. If Not Now When by FREDTHEBAND Nice, no? Recorded by producer Howard Bilerman (Arcade Fire) and mixed by Ben Hillier (Elbow, Blur, Editors), we’re promised that Leaving My Empire is Fred’s most ambitious album to date. We’ll be keeping our ears pricked. If you’re mad to see Fred being all organic and that, you can catch ‘em all as follows: April 15th - Tower Records Instore - Dublin April 16th - HMV Instore - Cork May 16th - Blackbox Theatre, Belfast May 19th - Whelans, Dublin May 20th - The Forum, Waterford May 21st - Cork … There’s more
