Yesterday evening, accompanied by Brian Greene I went to see singer song writer Aisling Kavanagh play Bewleys Café Theatre. Honestly, I’d never been to the upper most level of the famous coffee house nor had I heard Aisling play before. How did I find out about it…. I saw this poster outside and after a pint and a chat in Bruxelles we made our way back down Grafton Street.
I was impressed. Very much so. Aisling mildly to one side, for those who don’t know it Bewleys Café Theatre has a sort of upstairs in the International Bar kind of a Parisian café feel about it and is quite intimate, all in a very positive way and for the greater for the music and the audience. We sat at the back of the room and I must say that with or without amplification there possibly wouldn’t have been much difference. Well, you know what I mean, if you’ve been there. If you haven’t, you should go.
Enda Reilly was the support act on the night and amongst his many talents sang as gaeilge. Towards the end of the night did a duet with Aisling - also as gaeilge. One may think that that may turn you off, y’know the whole singing in Irish thing - but it was once again pretty darned amazing being quite frank.
Enda as a by the way plays Bewleys every Monday from about 8/ 8.30pm with his band and the gigs so Aisling told us is free in. Next time your stuck for a beer and some entertainment. You know where to go.
Back to Aisling, in short, one to watch.
