Competition CLOSED: NYE Dublin

Looking for something to do this New Year’s in Dublin? How about the New Year’s Eve Countdown Concert in College Green? Paul Brady, Bressie and Damien Dempsey are just some of Ireland’s most-loved musicians scheduled to perform live at the gig featuring pyrotechnics and special effects. That’s not all though. The concert is part of a larger three day festival taking place from December 30th 2011 – 1st January 2012 entitled NYE Dublin. It has been created to animate Dublin city centre, engage residents and attract visitors to the capital over the three day period. During the festival, seasonal markets will be located in central locations across Dublin, including Wolfe Tone Square, Temple Bar and Barnardo Square. Children’s entertainment will be provided in various “kids’ fun zones” including an ice rink in Wolfe Tone Square. Shameless Pimping: Electric Ireland #tweetemhome Race from Dublin – Galway

So this is the story. Electric Ireland (the ESB) are holding a charity race from Dublin to Galway and back. Three celeb teams – Team A Joe Rooney and Mundy in the DeLorean supporting Concern; Team B Katie Van Buren and Andrew Stanley in the New York Taxi supporting the Irish Cancer Society, and Team C Brent Pope and Keith Barry in the Renault Trophy supporting the ISPCC – are competing to bag €20,000 for their chosen charity. Each team has to bag petrol for their tank by having their hashtag used on Twitter, mentioned on Facebook, and by doing various challenges along the way… and each team has an online supporter. Music News: Tindersticks to Return in 2012

So far today we’ve told you about new releases from Animal Collective and Delorentos and now we can make it a hat-trick with the news that Tindersticks will return with a new album in February of next year. Details are a bit sketchy at this point but what we know is it’s entitled ‘The Something Rain’ and will comprise of nine songs. One of those songs is ‘Medicine’ and you can watch the video by David Reeve below. The band have announced several live shows across Europe but nothing in Ireland yet so fingers crossed.

Music News: New Album and Irish Tour for Delorentos

Delorentos have just announced the release of their latest offering, Little Sparks, on January 27th 2012. The album is produced by Rob Kirwin and is the follow up to the EP of the same name released earlier this year. The band have also recorded a number of acoustic performances with Myles O’Reilly. You can watch the clip for ‘Hunting’ below and enjoy the boys rocking out ever so gently on a sunny roof somewhere. Events: Christmas Fairs in Dublin Town

We’ve received a few press releases about upcoming Christmas fairs in the capital so here’s the rundown, if you like that sort of thing: Powerscourt Gallery Christmas Market is happening this Saturday 10th in The Powerscourt Centre on South William Street. From 12pm - 5pm they’ll have Irish arts and crafts such as handmade jewellery, Christmas stationary, handcrafted knitwear and handbags and plenty more. Christchurch Cathedral are holding their Christmas market in the 12th century crypt, with gourmet food stalls outside in the cathedral grounds. Trading is from 11am - 4pm and stalls include arts, crafts and jewellery from up-and-coming Irish designers. With free entry, the market runs Saturday 10th and 17th and all proceeds will be going toward the restoration of the belfry. Music News: Animal Collective Working on New Album

Pitchfork are reporting today that Animal Collective will head back to the studio in January to begin work on a new album. To celebrate the Baltimore four-piece’s return here are two of the stand out tracks from 2009′s Merriweather Post Pavilion, ‘My Girls’ and ‘Summertime Clothes.’

Events: The Make-up Artists present “A Tale of 3 Cities”

You all know by now that I love improv comedy. It’s exciting, it’s different and above everything else it’s a whole lot of fun! Well the other day Neil Curran from the Laughalot Improv group presented me with this fantastic new side project which he is involvoed in and of course I jumped on the chance to be involved. Following an incredible impromptu ‘improv jam’ session at Electric Picnic in 2010 and Body & Soul in 2011, some of Ireland’s top improvisers decided that there was too much fun to be had to leave it at that. Plans were hatched, and they decided that a three city COMEDY IMPROV tour was in order.
