TV Preview: Falling Skies

“Falling Skies” is a new sci-fi summer series starting this Sunday at 9pm on TNT in the US. There is also a web comic at the website which is released every two weeks. Noah Wylie plays the lead character who is a college professor in Boston. While the Boston skyline has been shown in trailers, this was filmed in Toronto.

Films on the horizon

I went to see Inception last week and thought it was brilliant. Before the film, caught some new previews or trailers that looked very good. The Town Directed by Ben Affleck. Starring Ben Affleck, Jeremy Renner, Jon Hamm, Pete Postlethwaite and Blake Lively. This is based on a Dennis Lehane book about Charlestown, Massachusetts .. bank robbers, the police, the town’s peoples and I think the code there that no one ever informs on the darker elements without the usual swift and lethal retribution. Tron: Legacy The website is very interesting, click on the image above. The cast includes original Tron actors Jeff Bridges and Bruce Boxleitner, and features Olivia Wilde as Quorra, Garrett Hedlunnd as Sam Flynn, Michael Sheen as Castor, and James Frain as Jarvis. Not much about the storyline out there, the trailers just showing hints, mostly showing the flashy cyber world and light cycles. I cannot wait to see this, … There’s more

Brady, Mick Fitzgerald, Luke Hayden, James Kelly, Cormac McDonagh, Brian McGovern, Rua O’Donnachu, Jer O’Leary, Fionn Ó Loingsigh, Conor O’Riordan, Ben Reynolds, Michael Shanley and Seamus Whelan. I know Mick Fitzgerald whom I met in a trad session at former Slattery’s on Caple Street back in the early 1990′s. He is a musician, singer, actor and writer … There’s more

Television Finales

The past two weeks season and series finales have hit the television screens here in the US. Most of my favorite programs will be back in the fall with two exceptions ’24′ which ended a great eight year run on Fox, and ‘FlashFoward’ which ABC has given the axe, which surprised me quite a bit. Here is a run down of the finales. Apologies if the finales have not aired in Ireland yet, so avert your eyes, spoiler alert ! The House season finale was a real emotional rollercoaster of a show, dealing with the collapse of a building and a woman who was trapped underneath with a leg crushed and pinned, and of course a decision has to made eventually, I’ll not give away anything on that end, but the part of the show was the last minute when Cuddy (Lisa Edelstein) arrives to find House (Hugh Laurie) on his bathroom floor … There’s more

The Last Airbender Trailer

Here is a newest trailer for The Last Airbender directed by M. Night Shyamalan which is due to be released in the US on July 2nd. This film looks very interesting, the story and the special effects. This a departure from Shyamalan’s usual fare, being a fan of him and his films, I’d like to see him and the film succeed, hope he creates something special here.

Television update

Time for updates to the television programs that I’ve been following.. The news is out that this will be the final season of Fox’s 24 and starting tonight the final 10 hours begins with a 2-hour show, the program will end with a 2-hour show on May 24th. I just watched tonight’s show, spoiler alert.. at the end of the show, Jack Bauer’s team closed in on the terrorists holding Hassan, killed the terrorists, but were too late to save Hassan, earlier Dana Walsh was caught as a mole in CTU who had tipped off the kidnapper. The Russian government was also thrown into the mix as their ambassador had a quick chat with the President. I think that the Russians are behind all of it, trying to ruin the peace plan and take over the Islamic country. There is also the matter of the dirty (nuclear rods) bomb that is being disarmed, it … There’s more

Merlin returns

The BBC program Merlin will be returning to television screens here on April 2nd. In the US, we’ll see it on the SyFy channel, as NBC dropped the show after its’ first season here. I watched the entire season and found it interesting. Merlin as a young man, is played by Colin Morgan from co. Armagh, who befriends Arthur, son of Luther Pendragon. Katie McGrath, from Dublin, plays Morgana, who also has magical powers. In the first season, Luther, was against magic and did his best to remove it’s influence from his kingdom. That Merlin and Morgana have magical powers is a secret. Last season, Merlin came to the rescue of Arthur on many occasions and at the conclusion of last season, were more friends than a knight and his servant. I’m looking forward to seeing how the show progresses this year.

New television shows this Spring

The following two new television shows will premiering this spring here . On the FX channel a new program is debuts on March 16th titled ‘Justified‘. It stars Timothy Olyphant, whose last major television role was Sheriff Seth Bullock on HBO’s ‘Deadwood’, plays U.S. Marshall Raylan Givens, a hero who uses violent means when needed. It is based on Elmore Leonard’s short story ‘Fire in the Hole’ who is the show’s executive producer. The ‘femmes fatales’ are played by Natalie Zea, his ex-wife, and Joelle Carter as a love interest. The trailer fills us in on the background of the program.

Television updates

There has been a bit of a lull in television programming the past couple of months, well, for the shows that I watch. CBS’ number one program NCIS had a great season opener and still has an excellent cast and characters, the episodes still have the comraderie and comedy, but I think the stories need a little more action and suspense, perhaps this military mystery series has run its’ course. Its’ spin-off, NCIS: Los Angeles has gotten better as the season has progressed, is a lot more action based, the characters are developing nicely, and Linda Hunt is a hoot as the head of operations. A pleasant surprise has been Human Target, the interaction between the three main characters is good, lots of action, some suspense, storylines are interesting as well, the show is definitely worth a look. The following programs will be returning from breaks in the coming few weeks. V returns on March 30th here in … There’s more
