First trailer for Cars 2

When Disney issue a new trailer that’s usually a good thing. When Disney issues a Pixar trailer doubly so. Today they issued first trailer for their next collaboration Cars 2! The movie is a sequel to the 2006 film, and sees Mater (the tow-truck) caught in a global conspiracy when he and Lightning McQueen head to Europe for the inaugural world grand prix. Obviously Lightning things the world is now ready for his showboating style of driving. A great voice-cast features Owen Wilson, Larry the Cable Guy, John Ratzenberger, Bonnie Hunt, Tony Shalhoub and Cheech Marin. Sir Michael Caine has even got in on the action voicing Finn McMissile (what a name!). The behind the scenes talent is top-notch too with the movie being co-directed by John Lasseter (Cars) and Brad Lewis (Ratatouille). Whilst the original wasn’t Pixar’s best received movie it was still an exceptionally well-made and well-told story. … There’s more

Nostalgia Week: The 80s films that defined a generation

80s

It’s Nostalgia Week here on Culch and with that I’m looking back at my favourite 5 films from the 1980s. The important consideration for me in choosing these fab five was that they reflect the generation more than simply being the best examples of cinema from one of films finest decade. With that in mind such cinematic legends as Raiders of the Lost Ark, the Star Wars sequels and Batman miss out. So without further ado here are my Top 80s movies.

Couch Potato Special - Top 20 DVDs of 2010 so far

There’s a good chance that the potato has gone mouldy after sitting, neglected, on the couch for the last few weeks. Time then to open up the windows, let out the smell and crack on with a brand new spud in its place. To make up for this neglect I am going to run down a list of the twenty DVDs that have been released in 2010 that must become part of your collection asap. The catalyst for this decision was the release this week of Shutter Island, the Martin Scorsese helmed, Leonardo DiCaprio starring, masterpiece of modern cinema, on DVD and Blu-ray. Since I view this as an essential purchase I got to wondering what else this year is an absolute must-buy. This list is compiled from the 100+ DVD releases of the year that I have managed to catch either at home or in the cinema and represents … There’s more

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is going to be epic

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is going to be be the biggest, most bad-ass, just plain best movie in the history of the world ever! Well maybe not quite but it should be pretty damn good. Further evidence of the magnitude of it’s awesomeness is on display today in a brand new international trailer which HeyUGuys just unveiled. Featuring some cool new footage the new trailer sets out to kick ass and take names. The movie is based on the really rather special series of graphic novels Scott Pilgrim and sees Michael Cera take on the 7 evil exes of his new found love Ramona Flowers, played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead. The movie also stars Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick, Alison Pill, Brandon Routh and Jason Schwartzman, and looks all kinds of amazing. The movie is released in Ireland August 27th and I just cannot wait.
