Couch Potato – DVDs out this week

Couch Potato is brought to you today by the letters DVD and the colour blue. I love the Muppets, I really do. Unfortunately there are more than a few (of the non-animated variety) in our potato sack today. This week sees a disappointing selection of DVDs hit stores nationwide, and with Christmas around the corner you really would expect to see better. There’s a Ben Stiller starring sequel, a fable about a camp Austrian fashion-guru, a high-def re-release of an epic gangster flick and a whole raft of new TV series from Britain and the US.

So, we’re into May now. Where is this year going? Blockbuster season is kicking off. Wolverine was average, Star Trek is sublime. So, what’s next? Terminator, Harry Potter, Transformers 2, Public Enemies, Bruno, GI Joe, Inglourious Basterds…it’ll be a mixed bag this Summer. In movie news: The nominations for the MTV Movie Awards (a million times more entertaining than the Oscars) have been announced. Check out the MTV website for more info. Curiously, Ben Stiller’s production company are working with Matt Lucas and David Walliams to make a Little Britain movie. Christina Aguilera is set to make her big screen debut in Burlesque, a contemporary musical along the same lines of Moulin Rouge. Roger Friedman is attacking Harry Knowles of Aint It Cool News for revealing too many details about Wolverine’s plot in his review. Look, I lead a busy life, ok! I am sorry I missed yesterday’s movie news. On the bright side, that means today’s news is chock-a-block with interesting tidbits: Firstly, for all you horror fans, check out Movie-Moron’s guide to this year’s upcoming horrors.
