Shutter Island - Review

Shutter Island, the oft-delayed Martin Scorsese adaptation of the best-selling Denis Lehane book finally hits Irish cinema screens on March 12th. Usually these kind of release date changes result from studio unease at something that took place during production, be it unsatisfactory effects or the commonly cited “creative differences”. In this instance it would appear that these usual reasons were not at fault, for Scorsese brings us a vision that is so close to a Hitchcockian murder-mystery as to make you believe Alfred himself had a hand in its creation.

TV Preview: Boardwalk Empire

Yes, I know I’ve been harping on about The Pacific for a while now (it’s the new show from the Hanks-Spielberg Band of Brothers camp), but now I can bombard you with news of another television show that’s months away! Boardwalk Empire is the new drama from Sopranos writer and producer Terry Winter. Better still, the first episode is directed by none other than Martin Scorsese. It has a fantastic cast, including Steve Buscemi in the lead role, and British actress Kelly MacDonald, as well as Gretchen Mol and Michael Pitt. It’s based on Nelson Johnson’s book Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City, and describes itself as a “prohibition gangster saga”. The perfect antidote for anyone who’s been suffering from Sopranos-withdrawl. It’s due to air in September this year on HBO. But now you can watch the official teaser trailer.

Darren’s Movie News 18/06/09 The Trailers

And because there are so many new trailers out in the last week or so, I thought it best to give them a lovely wee post all to themselves: Scorsese’s Shutter Island is the story of two U.S. marshals who are summoned to a remote and barren island off the cost of Massachusetts to investigate the mysterious disappearance of a murderess from the island’s fortress-like hospital for the criminally insane: In The Stepfather remake, a sociopath wants more than anything to have the perfect family but each time his new wife and stepchild don’t meet his requirements, he slaughters them and moves on, finds a new family and starts again: I’m not too interested in the Fame remake, but the impressive cast and fresh sound will undoubtedly guarantee a decent box office take:
